Low-Prep Coding and CTE Activities for March: Pi Day, St. Patrick's, and More!

March is here, bringing new opportunities to engage students in STEM, CTE, and computer science. As we welcome the first day of spring, teachers are also looking for creative and CTE-integrated ways to celebrate Pi Day, St. Patrick’s Day, and Women’s History Month.

These hands-on, low-prep coding activities can be adapted for elementary, middle, and high school students—whether you’re teaching block-based coding with Blockly or diving into Python.

Did you know we have our own, standards-aligned curriculum at Robolink? Developed by real computer science educators with classroom experience, our curriculum sets us apart sets from other drone makers who outsource their educational content or don't provide it at all. Check it out at learn.robolink.com to engage students in STEM and CTE all year long.

Pi Day Coding Fun – Blockly & Python

Pi Day (March 14) is the perfect time to blend math and coding! Here are two simple ways to celebrate:

  • Blockly for Pi Day – Use #BlocklyforRobolink with #CoDroneEDU to explore Pi! Challenge students to experiment with checking calculations, measuring angles, and programming flight patterns that highlight the significance of 3.14.
  • Python for Pi Day – Take it up a notch with #PythonforRobolink! Using the circle function in the Python library, students can program their drones to fly in a perfect circular motion, reinforcing the concept of Pi in a hands-on way. Check out our Function Documentation for more information!

St. Patrick’s Day: Find the Pot of Gold!

Get students coding with a St. Patrick’s Day challenge! Using CoDroneEDU’s color sensors, send students on a virtual rainbow hunt. Their goal? Program the drone to visit every color in the rainbow in order before reaching the gold at the end!

This activity encourages logical sequencing, problem-solving, and creativity—all while making STEM learning festive and fun!

Women’s History Month: Take Flight with STEM Leaders

March is Women’s History Month, and what better way to celebrate than by spotlighting women in STEM and aviation? This month, we want to spotlight a really exciting project underway from the team at CAST, called Take Flight.

Take Flight is a groundbreaking initiative designed to engage female students with STEM and CTE with drones as the "vehicle" – emphasizing communal goals and hands-on, real-world applications. The curriculum, set to launch in 2026, is currently in development with educators, with early training opportunities available for interested schools and organizations. Fill out their Take Flight interest form to stay in the loop!
